prayers please

Late tonight the Wonderworking Kursk Root Icon is making its way to our parish. At the same time our small southern town is bracing for a forecast which includes freezing rain, sleet and snow. Our parish is out in the country with access only from a single winding road full of hills and 90 degree curves. If ever I hoped that weathermen were incompetent, it would be now. Please pray for the safety of the monks travelling with the icon, and I selfishly ask for prayers that the icon makes it to our city and does not have to change routes. Many in our parish could use the blessing of healing which Christ has sometimes provided through this veneration of his Mother.

ht to Fr. Stephen Freeman for the image of the icon in this post

  1. Prayers are offered. It is such a blessing to venerate this precious icon!

  2. Be encourged. The last time we had a wonderworking icon of the Theotokos visit us, we saw tornadoes down the freeways. The demons do what they can to make it difficult to come into contact with such grace; but persevering in prayer makes the grace of the contact so much greater.

Prayers for you. May the Theotokos make clear your path to her.

  3. So much for being incognito, huh?

  4. The encouraging thing is that it seems to be all snow, no sleet, even a little south of church. Dad salted today, and they're plowing tomorrow. He also talked to the monks this morning, but you'll have to call me to hear about that! I have toyed with the idea of sleeping in a Sunday School room tonight!

  6. praying. What a blessing for your parish family. I was able to visit and venerate it at my daughter's parish about a month ago.

  7. As you know the location has been moved to a Hotel off the interstate. I am asking the Lord to protect the monks and this precious icon as it makes it's way to our town. They are not expected to arrive until midnight. I know the roads are treacherous but we serve an all-powerful, almighty God. (I think what Katherine said is true.)

I will be praying the Akathist as I head to bed. I, too, selfishly pray that we will be able to host this special visit from the Mother of our Lord. What an honor.
